On Friday, Planning Minister Professor Ahsan Iqbal emphasized that many gifted students failed the English language exam in CSS; the practice of making English a required subject for admission to the public service needs to be reexamined.
The minister presided over a meeting of the Civil Services Reform Committee to talk about a comprehensive restructuring plan that would change Pakistan's bureaucracy to meet modern issues.
Pakistan's civil service should be the greatest in the world, he claimed, if English were the defining factor. English has been utilized as a language of discrimination against the majority of people and the average citizen.
He suggested making Urdu an optional option for the Central Superior Services (CSS) exam's required subject. This would strengthen Urdu as the national language and encourage inclusivity and national unity.
Citing substantial changes in the environment and socioeconomic reality, the minister also emphasized the necessity to reconsider the civil service model that was established in 1973.
The committee supported the implementation of a cluster-based approach for restructuring during the deliberations, stressing the significance of tackling the difficulties of integrating professionals in the public sector, according to a press statement from the planning division.
Iqbal observed that, given the changing times, the skill sets of many public sector officials were frequently out of step with the needs of their positions. In order to close this gap and improve government institutions' efficiency, he emphasized the necessity of implementing best practices from the private sector.
In order to guarantee that public sector enterprises have the requisite knowledge, the minister emphasized the urgent necessity to address the acute lack of technical personnel in several ministries.
