The Punjab School Department has fixed the annual examination schedule for classes 1 to 7 as part of its recently approved academic plan for 2026.
Exams for these grades will take place from March 10 to March 22, and results will be made public on March 31, according to the department.
Officials also approved the updated syllabus for the upcoming academic year, the new school calendar, and the altered admissions procedure. December will see the release of the revised textbooks, which include 29 replacements for grades six through matric.
Free textbooks are expected to be distributed in government schools starting on April 5, 2026, as the new academic year is due to start on April 1.
Education officials cautioned that Punjab still has serious learning difficulties. During the 2025 school year, over 28 million students missed school; this figure is predicted to rise to over 30 million the following year.
The agency stated that as many young people are dropping out of school to work in restaurants, workshops, and other unofficial industries, dwindling enrollment—particularly among girls—remains a major issue.
Pakistan still faces a major issue of out-of-school children in Pakistan, and Punjab makes a big share. The government is trying to spread awareness through different mediums to attract children's enrollments.
