A falling trend in engineering admissions has led the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) to authorize the entrance of students with FSc pre-medical backgrounds into BS Engineering programs.

Following discussions with specialists and vice chancellors, this conclusion was reached. Dr. Khan underlined the importance of engineering to the growth of the country and enumerated supportive policies for the sector, including STEM education in schools and paid training programs.

At its 49th meeting on June 28, the PEC governing board decided to permit pre-medical students who have earned a Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) to apply to any engineering program as long as they follow PEC guidelines. The Higher Education Commission (HEC) received a letter on July 11th outlining its decision. Universities must follow new rules and standard operating procedures (SOPs) in order to admit these students.

The entry exam methods will be adjusted in accordance with PEC standards in order to incorporate the new qualifications. In addition, a course-lacking program spanning eight weeks will be implemented to address areas like mathematics. Students who successfully finish this program are granted provisional admission to foundation courses, which is contingent upon passing an entrance exam.

Universities are responsible for developing and maintaining the quality of this simplified curriculum. Forty percent of the seats available in each engineering program may be awarded to pre-medical students who successfully finish the abbreviated course. These students will then sit for an additional entrance exam to determine their eligibility for admission.
