HEC Issues Advisory
The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has warned the public that cybercriminals are employing increasingly sophisticated tactics to trick users and steal private data in response to a dramatic increase in cyberattacks throughout Pakistan.
These tactics, which are intended to trick people into disclosing personal information or disseminating false information, include phishing scams, harmful QR codes, and phony websites. The HEC recently posted on X (previously Twitter) to warn people to be more careful when using the internet.
Cyberattacks are becoming more frequent. To obtain your information, hackers are using phishing messages, QR codes, and misleading websites, the HEC cautioned. Do not click on links you are not familiar with. Verify the reference.
Activate multi-factor authentication (MFA) and use defense software. You must be aware in order to safeguard both the nation's digital environment and yourself.
Guidelines for Safety from HEC
The HEC advises users to take the following precautions to help them safeguard themselves:
- Instead of clicking on unknown links, hover over them to confirm the URL.
- Only use NCERT or official government sources for information and updates.
- Pay attention to unwanted QR codes and forwarded texts.
- Update passwords frequently, utilize MFA, and install antivirus software.
- The HEC stressed the need for personal accountability in protecting personal information and preserving the integrity of Pakistan's digital environment.
- Users can drastically lower their risk of being victims of cyberattacks by being vigilant and taking these safeguards.
