LUMS, FBISE Successfully Conducts Pakistan Mathematics Olympiad

At the Pakistan Mathematics Olympiad (PMO), which took place on Sunday across 69 testing locations, more than 7,500 students showcased their mathematical abilities.

In partnership with the Islamic World Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (Icesco) and the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), the Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (FBISE) reports that the PMO 2024 was successfully completed.

According to the board, the purpose of the competition was to find and develop mathematical potential in secondary and upper secondary students in Pakistan and beyond.

Over 7,500 registrants had a unique opportunity to showcase their mathematical prowess as the exam was administered concurrently at 69 testing locations across the country and three abroad locations.

Students were able to participate in demanding problem-solving, critical thinking, and analytical reasoning exercises thanks to the Olympiad's curriculum, which was painstakingly created by Lums' Mathematics Department and in accordance with worldwide standards, according to a press release from the FBISE.

Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani, the education secretary, also welcomed the students at the Islamabad Model College for Boys, I-8/3. Syed Junaid Akhlaq, the chairman of the FBISE, and other senior FBISE and FDE officials accompanied him.

In her interactions with children, parents, and staff, the federal secretary praised their zeal and commitment.

The education secretary emphasized in a media appearance the critical role mathematics plays in preparing young people for the difficulties of the modern world.

"The foundation of critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, which are crucial for advancement and creativity, is mathematics. Students are encouraged to take on difficulties and cultivate a lifetime love of learning by programs like the PMO," he stated.

"The PMO is not just a competition; it is a movement to ignite the spark of intellectual curiosity among our youth," he added, acknowledging the work done by FBISE, LUMS, and Icesco to promote a culture of academic success.

A variety of incentives are also available to participants in the PMO 2024, such as computers, cash prizes, medals, and chances to gain admission to prestigious universities in Pakistan. These incentives are meant to inspire students to strive for greatness and make significant contributions to society.

The Federal Board thanks all participants, including students, parents, teachers, and partners, for their tremendous help in making the Pakistan Mathematics Olympiad a huge success, according to the press release.
