The Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) guidelines for quality assurance of engineering education at par with international standards are being implemented by faculty members, and as part of their ongoing training, Punjab University Institute of Chemical Engineering and Technology organized a seminar on the topic of Implementation and Assessment of Outcome-Based Education (OBE).
It is important to note that PEC is a signatory to the Washington Accord and that graduates of the ICET program under the OBE system will have the advantage of being able to obtain employment anywhere in the world market. COMSATS Associate Professor Dr. Fahad Rehman was the guest speaker during the occasion. He graduated from ICET in 2006 and is also an alumnus.
The guest speaker was cordially greeted and praised for repaying ICET for his services by Punjab University Dean of the Faculty of Chemical and Materials Engineering, Prof. Dr. Abdullah Khan Durrani, Prof. Dr. Rafi Ullah Khan, Director of ICET, and PEC-AC Convener, Dr. Ayyaz Muhammad.
The formulation of CLOs, mapping with PLOs, learning levels and domains, rubrics (courses and lab), complex engineering problems (CEP), open-ended labs (OEL) and problem-based learning (PBL), OBE-specific requirements for lab safety and evaluation, PEC evaluation criteria, continuous quality improvement (CQI), and PEC requirements for industrial and international linkages are just a few of the important topics covered by Dr. Fahad Rehman's insightful talks on the OBE system.
Faculty members found the workshop to be very educational, and participants came away with a greater understanding of how to reinforce the current OBE implementation system in the truest sense of the word for graduates of chemical engineering that are of the highest caliber.
