Indian students have flooded UK universities in recent years. Quality education, multiculturalism, and personal and professional progress contribute to this tendency.

New visa regulations and limits seem to be lowering UK applications. Yes, amid the ongoing review of post-study work visas and restrictions on bringing dependents on government-funded scholarships, official statistics released on Thursday showed a 4% drop in Indian student applications to British universities.

The Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS) reported a 0.7% gain in international undergraduate students, while Nigerians and Indians in particular were declining after record rises. India's applications declined 4% to 8,770 and Nigeria's by 46% to 1,590, according to PTI.

UK higher education remains popular globally, with 0.7 percent more international applicants. China (3%) (910 applicants), Turkey (37% (710 applicants), and Canada (14%, 340 applicants) saw the biggest increases. In this year's UCAS data, Nigeria (-46%) and India (-4%) had fewer applicants, PTI said.

Applications from India declined 4% to 8,770 and from Nigeria, 46% to 1,590, relative to last year.

After regular rises, the Rishi Sunak-led government's evaluation of the Graduate Route visa, which allows graduates to stay and work for at least two years after graduating, may explain this fall.

The Home Office has asked the independent Migration Advisory Committee (MAC) to investigate this post-study work visa. Indian students received 43% of student visas last year.

Last month's ban on overseas students on all but postgraduate research degrees and courses with government-funded scholarships bringing dependents to the UK may have contributed to the reduction.
