A notification was released on Wednesday by the government announcing a three-day break for Eidul Fitr from March 31 to April 2.

On the occasion of Eidul Fitr, the prime minister has been happy to designate March 31 to April 2, 2025 (Monday through Wednesday) as public holidays, according to the Cabinet Division's press statement.

However, Pakistan will celebrate Eidul Fitr on a date that is determined by the announcement of the moon sighting.

The Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee and zonal committees will meet on Sunday, March 30, in the evening to observe the moon of Shawwal, which could signal the end of Ramadan.

In a March 7 announcement, which Dawn.com has a copy of, the Pakistan Meteorological Department stated that there is a strong probability of seeing the new moon of Shawwal 1446 AH on the evening of March 30.

But according to the Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission's prediction last month, Eidul Fitr will be observed on March 31, and Ramadan will start on March 2.

The end of Ramadan, when Muslims worldwide spend a month of fasting, marks the celebration of Eidul Fitr, a major holiday in the Islamic lunar calendar. This time of self-control comes to an end with Eid celebrations.

To help passengers traveling before and during Eidul Fitr, Pakistan Railways announced earlier this week that it will be operating four special trains.

Service from Quetta to Peshawar via Sibbi, Sukkur/Rohri, Khanewal, Lahore, and Rawalpindi is part of the special train operation.
