The demand for top-notch international education is predicted to grow gradually in China as the country continues to open up to the outside world, according to top executives at Harrow International School Shanghai.
Harrow Shanghai was founded in 2016 as the fourth Harrow school abroad, and it is still dedicated to the Chinese market and hopeful about growing there in the future. A new US university route program that was introduced on Friday and aims to provide students with a wider variety of academic options and pathways for global development shows its confidence.
In addition to its basic A-Level curriculum, the school plans to provide Advanced Placement (AP) courses, SAT preparation, and classes on American politics, culture, and leadership to students hoping to get into US universities.
By doing this, it also becomes the city's first totally international school to use the "UK-US integrated curriculum" approach, which enables children to interact with both educational systems at the same time.
Situated on the edge of China's opening up, the school is part of Shanghai's Pudong New Area, which is also home to many foreign institutions and businesses, as well as expats and their families. It has increased demand for high-quality foreign education.
Ding Lizhong, the chief inspector of schools for the Pudong Education Bureau, stated that despite the pandemic's impact, there were still almost 12,000 foreign students enrolled in Pudong's basic education program last year, with over 7,000 attending international schools and over 500 presently attending Harrow Shanghai.
Reed noted that despite the current "challenging" state of the international education sector, he still anticipated a "steady and bright future of expansion and development" in the Chinese market.
Here, we've been doing great and will keep expanding, particularly in a part of Shanghai that is also expanding and changing. In the upcoming years, I predict that we will remain quite stable, with some growth and stability.
