Beaconhouse National University (BNU) has made history by becoming the first university in Pakistan to be certified under the prestigious Eco-Smart Campus Certification Program of the World Wide Fund Pakistan.
This achievement is a significant example of the practical implementation of environmental protection, climate change mitigation, and sustainable development principles in the country’s higher education institutions.
BNU’s efforts include expanding green infrastructure, implementing low-carbon management protocols, establishing waste segregation and recycling systems, and integrating environmental education into the curriculum.
The institution has also announced a plastic-free campus for the next academic year to reduce air pollution and its carbon footprint.
In the World Wide Fund Pakistan (WWF)’s rigorous assessment, BNU performed well in areas such as efficient use of resources, waste reduction, promotion of renewable energy, conservation of biodiversity, and environmental awareness.
According to the university, this accolade is not just an institutional achievement but also marks a new direction in Pakistan’s educational landscape, where sustainability is being recognized as a strategic imperative.
BNU has also committed to developing a best practice framework in partnership with WWF Pakistan so that other universities can also undergo the “Green University” certification process.
Punjab University Imposes Strict Dress Code
Punjab University has started strict implementation of its dress code. Under this decision, the entry of any person, including students, wearing shorts or inappropriate clothing has been stopped in the university.
The administration has banned wearing shorts in university areas, classrooms, departments, grounds, and residential areas.
Due to lack of implementation, wearing shorts had become the norm in the university. Following strict instructions from Vice Chancellor Dr. Muhammad Ali, security personnel have been deployed at the entrances and are sending back those violating the dress code.
This step has been taken to establish discipline in the university and ensure discipline among the students.
