Pakistan is a country rich in natural resources and these resources are the backbone of the industrial development of the country. If the minerals and natural resources available in the country are utilized, not only we can deal with the power crisis, but we can also be successful in obtaining chemicals, petrochemicals, cement, marble, granite, various metals, plastic products, construction materials, etc. And can earn a lot of foreign exchange from the export of these goods. Not only this, nature has also blessed Pakistan with the best and most precious stones.

Apart from this, if the oil and gas reserves are utilized properly, the country can come out of difficult economic situations. The exploration and acquisition of these mineral resources is taught in 'Mineral Resource Engineering'. Pakistan Mineral Development Corporation is fulfilling its responsibilities to support and develop the mining industry in Pakistan. The Gemstone Corporation of Pakistan is also working with stakeholders to extract precious stones in Pakistan.

Differences between Mineral Resource Engineering and Mining Engineering

Mineral resource engineering focuses on the technical, environmental and economic aspects of extracting and processing the earth's mineral resources. This profession deals with the extraction and processing of coal, metals, gold, industrial minerals, oil and gas underground and below their surface for the best benefit of industrial development and research. In reservoir engineering, offshore drilling and oil and gas production are studied under the supervision of industry experts and mentors.

A career in mineral resource engineering also requires you to be prepared for advanced mining design and planning, rock mechanics, ground control, processing techniques and drilling engineering.

There is not much difference between mining engineering and mineral resource engineering. Mining engineering is the branch of science and technology in which minerals are extracted from the earth. Mining engineering is related to other fields like mineral processing, prospecting, mining, geology and metallurgy, geotechnical engineering and surveying. A mine engineer can manage any stage of mining operations during excavation or mining, from exploration and discovery of mineral resources through feasibility studies to mine design, project development, production and mine closure.

Educational Objectives of the Program

  • Identifying, researching and solving problems related to the exploration of mineral resources with the help of modern techniques in areas of Pakistan, especially Balochistan.
  • Having a high level of technical competence in mining engineering and demonstrating problem-solving skills and research.
  • Practicing workplace safety, high professional interpersonal skills, environmental protection and professional engineering ethics.
  • Trying to overcome the complexities associated with mining engineering.
