The United States has chosen to end the Global Undergraduate Exchange Program from Pakistan in response to Donald Trump's rigorous national security review, a decision that has shocked Pakistani students.
Hundreds of Pakistani students had the chance to interact with the American educational system through the 15-year-old Global UGRAD initiative.
Established in 1950 by the governments of the United States and Pakistan, USEP Pakistan is the bi-national commission responsible for overseeing the program. Its goal is to foster mutual understanding between the US and Pakistani peoples by means of cultural and educational exchange initiatives.
In a statement, USEFP said, We recognize that this news may be disheartening, particularly for individuals who submitted this year and were anticipating this chance, the statement read. Thousands of students have had life-altering experiences through the Global UGRAD Program over the years, which has promoted leadership development, cultural interchange, and academic advancement.
The influence this program has made on its participants and the communities they have impacted makes us really proud.
It is important to note that since Donald Trump took office, the US has been going through a significant makeover in almost every key sector. Thousands of immigrants, even those with green cards, are in a panic over it.
The Global UGRAD Program has contributed to the development of bridges between Pakistani and American communities over the years. In addition to improving students' professional and personal growth, the program had a long-lasting effect on the communities in which the students lived.
Although the program's termination signifies the end of an important chapter, USEFP stressed that it inspires Pakistani students to look into other overseas educational and scholarship options. The foundation advised students to look for additional opportunities that fit with their academic objectives.
