The Supreme Court of Pakistan has ruled the Shortening of the LLB (Bachelor of Law) program duration from five years to four years.
The ruling was made at the legal education reforms case hearing on Wednesday. The Supreme Court also ordered the elimination of the contentious C-Law exam for international law graduates.
In his orders, Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar underlined the urgent need for reforms to improve the nation's legal education standards. Justice Mazhar stated that an all-encompassing strategy should be employed to raise the caliber of law schools as opposed to employing punitive measures.
The court also deliberated on matters concerning SM Law College, a prestigious institution with a lengthy history. Given that SM Law College has been a major hub for legal education since before Pakistan was established, Justice Mazhar said that any shortcomings should be fixed rather than closed.
Although the court has put the case on hold for an undetermined amount of time, it has made it clear that substantial legal education reforms will still be sought under judicial supervision.
