In Sindh's first Children's Parliament, Syeda Rida Batool Kazmi, a 10th grader at GGHSS Tando Allahyar, was chosen to serve as the first Chief Minister.

The opposition leader, Ashok Kumar, a ninth-grade student from GHS Mithi Tharparkar, received 24 votes, while Rida received 40 votes to defeat him.

This innovative project, led by the Thar Education Alliance in partnership with UNICEF, the Reform Support Unit (RSU), and the Sindh Education & Literacy Department (SE&LD), intends to empower children and advance their right to education.

With two representatives chosen from each district and six from Sajawal because of its low literacy rate, children from 30 districts throughout Sindh took part.

In this historic forum, these young leaders are now speaking for their communities. Following her oath-taking, Syeda Rida Batool Kazmi spoke about her eagerness and resolve to change the world.

"I've learned from the Children's Parliament that women may serve as chief minister of Sindh. We can effect significant change if we work together and engage in organized advocacy," she stated.

The difficulties girls encounter in obtaining education were highlighted by Zainab Khan, an eighth-grade student from SEF PSP Badin who was chosen to serve as the Minister for Quality Education. Despite the fact that education is a fundamental right, many girls are not given the chance to pursue it because of enduring social taboos.

I know other children's challenges because I was a kid too, and I'm determined to get out-of-school kids back in the classroom," she said.

Similar pledges were made by other ministries and members of parliament, who emphasized the importance of guaranteeing every child's access to education and opportunities. They pledged to push for answers to problems in education and motivate legislators to take action.

Iqbal Ditho, the chairman of the Sindh Human Rights Commission, emphasized the initiative's function in teaching kids about their rights and the obligations of elected officials.
