Jazz has extended its Digital Pakistan Fellowship Program to LUMS in order to include students in influencing the online conversation and helping to shape the changing field of tech journalism. Students who get this scholarship will actively promote understanding of how technology can change society and help bring the vision of a digital Pakistan to life.
Through the fellowship program, young people can take the lead in important discussions about innovation, technology, and advancement. In addition to showcasing Pakistan's potential on the international scene, it pushes students to cultivate critical viewpoints and utilize their voices to inform others about the advancement of technology in Pakistan.
At a ceremony on Wednesday at LUMS, Jazz and LUMS signed a memorandum of cooperation (MoU). In order to support tech-based innovation and storytelling, Jazz has already partnered with prestigious academic institutions such as the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), Beaconhouse National University (BNU), and Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU). This collaboration expands on those ties.
Over 90 fellows, 78% of whom are women, have been empowered in the field of tech journalism thus far by the Digital Pakistan Fellowship Program. Over 1,200 creators have participated in two cohorts of citizen journalism, which have trained them for over 2,500 hours. Jazz is advancing its goal of encouraging innovation-led growth and motivating young people to participate in Pakistan's digital transformation by bringing this program to LUMS.
"We hope to inspire narratives that reflect Pakistan's readiness to embrace a tech-driven future by empowering students to lead the discourse on technology and innovation," stated Aamir Ibrahim, CEO of Jazz, in reference to the partnership. This program is a component of Jazz's overarching goal to empower young people to use technology to effect significant change.
"At LUMS, we believe education is not just about acquiring knowledge but also fostering the ability to think critically and engage meaningfully with the challenges of our time," said Dr. Ali Cheema, vice chancellor of LUMS. Our students have the chance to investigate the revolutionary potential of technology and facilitate discussions that help create a forward-thinking, technologically advanced Pakistan thanks to this collaboration with Jazz.
Students will get the chance to develop and spread stories about technology on well-known websites like YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, and LinkedIn as part of the curriculum. The goal of Jazz is to motivate a fresh wave of storytellers who can explain how technology can revolutionize advancement and creativity.
