Every year on January 24, the International Day of Education is observed to emphasize the critical role that education plays in fostering both peace and development.

On December 3, 2018, the UN General Assembly formally declared it by passing resolution 73/25.

The theme for the International Day of Education in 2025 will be "AI and Education: Preserving Human Agency in a World of Automation."

The main idea of this theme is that education may help individuals comprehend, adjust to, and influence the swift changes that technology and artificial intelligence are bringing about.

According to the official website, the lines between human intention and machine-driven action frequently become blurred as computer and AI-driven systems advance, posing important questions about how to maintain, redefine, and, ideally, elevate human agency in a time of rapid technological advancement.

To demonstrate the value of education in accomplishing global objectives and creating a brighter future, the International Day of Education was established. Nigeria and 58 other nations co-authored the resolution to create this day, demonstrating the broad support for equitable, high-quality education for all.
