To look into the girl's suicide attempt at a private institution three days ago, the Higher Education Department (HED) formed a four-person committee on Wednesday.

Fatima (21), a University of Lahore D. Pharmacy student, was taken to a nearby hospital after jumping from the building's third level. She suffered severe fractures to both of her legs in addition to other injuries.

HED Secretary Ghulam Fareed Kathia informed Dawn that a four-person committee was established to look into the issue, consisting of three vice chancellors from public and private universities as well as a member of the Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC).

He stated that he will be able to provide more commentary on the matter after the committee turns in its findings in four days.

This reporter was informed by a senior police official who wished to remain anonymous that the girl's relatives did not file a complaint.

According to him, the girl had tried suicide due to a personal problem, according to the preliminary investigation. The pupil is receiving treatment at the Lahore General Hospital in the interim. To guarantee her ongoing observation, a medical board has been established.

The student's condition is severe, according to the board, which is led by LGH Principal Prof. Farooq Afzal, but her blood pressure and heart rate are normal.

Prof. Jodat Saleem, a member of the medical board, stated that the student's Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS), which is currently at level 7, has shown progress. A "weaning trial" to take her off the ventilator has been started. The reports went back to normal when the platelets and blood were transfused. Her lung condition has also improved, and she now needs less oxygen.
