During a recent National Assembly session, the Establishment Division provided a comprehensive report on the performance of candidates who appeared in the Central Superior Services (CSS) Examination between 2019 and 2021. The report presented data on the success and failure rates of individuals who attempted the exam.

One of the key findings of the report was that 54.53 percent of the applicants who took the CSS exam failed the Urdu language component, which is Pakistan's official language. The failure rate for this subject has seen a significant increase from 30 percent in 2019 to 59 percent in 2020 and 73 percent in 2021. The overall failure rate for the Urdu language was recorded at 54.53 percent.

Furthermore, the report revealed that a staggering 45,800 out of 49,500 applicants failed the essay writing component of the exam. In 2019, only 6 percent of the 14,205 applicants managed to pass the essay writing portion, while the remaining 13,328 failed. Similarly, in 2020, out of the 18,387 applicants, only 4 percent passed the essay writing component, with 17,735 failing. In 2021, the success rate slightly improved, with 13 percent of the 16,887 applicants passing the essay writing section, while the remaining 14,760 individuals failed.

The report's findings emphasize the need to address the shortcomings in the educational system that contribute to such high failure rates in language and essay writing. The CSS exam is a crucial gateway for individuals to pursue a career in the public service sector. It is vital to ensure that candidates are adequately prepared and equipped with the necessary skills to succeed in the exam, including proficiency in the official language and essay writing.
