Aga Khan University (AKU) has introduced free online nutrition courses for medical professionals in response to the nation's child and teenage girl malnutrition problem.
It will be taught at the AKU's Institute for Global Health and Development (IGHD).
These classes are offered as part of the IGNIT3 initiative, a project designed to enable medical professionals to offer vital nutrition care, especially to women, children, and teenage females.
The five-year collaborative capacity-building initiative, Increase Gains in Nutrition by Integration, Education, Evaluation, and Empowerment (IGNIT3), was initiated in 2023.
This Global Affairs Canada-funded project, which aims to improve nutrition services in Pakistan, Ghana, and Malawi, is carried out in Pakistan by IGHD in collaboration with WaterAid Pakistan, Nutrition International, and the Center for Global Child Health at the Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids).
Dr. Zulfiqar A. Bhutta of IGHD spoke at the opening and explained that the courses were created with Pakistan in mind to solve local issues.
These provide easily accessible, interactive training that is suited to the healthcare requirements of Pakistan. It is intended for midwives, nurses, nutritionists, and physicians. The courses give practitioners the hands-on knowledge they need to include nutrition care into their clinical work.
Through emphasizing the interrelationships among gender, environment, and nutrition, the courses seek to provide equitable care and tackle the distinct healthcare issues faced by Pakistan.
These mobile-friendly courses are accessible through the World Continuing Education Alliance (WCEA) platform and offer offline options for more flexibility.
Certificates approved by the Pakistan Medical Council and the Pakistan Nursing and Midwifery Council will be awarded to participants upon completion.
The nutrition care for mothers, children, and adolescents will be strengthened by IGNIT3's courses, which will help Pakistan's most vulnerable populations have better health outcomes.
