Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) is working tirelessly to improve the lives of people with disabilities by bringing them convenience and wealth.
AIOU Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Nasir Mahmood, highlighted on the International Day of Persons with Disabilities that the university provides free education from matriculation to PhD, aiming to empower individuals to lead dignified and successful lives.
The institution has also set up an "E-Learning Accessibility Center" in its library especially for students with visual impairments, Dr. Nasir added.
No student should be denied the opportunity to receive an education because of their financial situation. In this context, we are creating a program that would provide all poor children with subsidized education, he said, adding that announcements will be made soon.
The VC stated that the university was transforming into a technology-based university and that this move would save the institution a substantial amount of money. He also added that computer technology is desperately needed to properly monitor and manage the vast academic network that consists of 49 regional campuses.
Students with disabilities can now readily access HEC's digital library, e-books, research papers, journals, and theses thanks to this state-of-the-art facility, which is furnished with specialized PCs, headphones, and cutting-edge software.
The fact that AIOU is the only public university in the nation offering free postgraduate education to those with disabilities is a source of pride.
Furthermore, the university's annual budget includes a special fund that supports a variety of scholarships for students with impairments.
The Allama Iqbal Open University, which has, as per a previous survey, waived off the fee of more than 1.4 million students from different cities of Pakistan.
