The Sindh Education Department declared that all public and private schools and institutions in Karachi will be closed today due to the city's flooded areas caused by heavy rains.
Only a few roads were still under water following Tuesday's intense rainstorm, and power had almost been restored throughout the city. However, Karachiites' expectations for a speedy return to normalcy were dashed on Wednesday by a late-evening deluge that included strong winds.
With Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab declaring a rain emergency, the Sindh government ordered all public and private schools in the city to stay closed on Wednesday.
The Sindh government's college and school education ministries announced on Wednesday that schools will not be open today because of the intense rain.
All private and public institutions in the Karachi division that fall within the administrative purview of the Sindh government's College Education Department and School Education and Literacy Department will be affected by the closure, the authorities announced.
The Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) also announced later on Wednesday night that it would be closed today because of the city's intense rains.
