The education department in Sindh is tightening its grip on ghost teachers who have been routinely missing work.

Following instructions from Sindh Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah, the chief biometric attendance monitoring officer discovered 3,033 teachers from different schools in the Umerkot district, Mirpurkhas division, and Benazirabad (Nawabshah) division were not at work.

Primary and high school teachers are among those who are missing. The minister's hometown of Umerkot district has reported 712 absentees in total.

The director of education then launched an inquiry in the district of Umerkot. About 150 elementary and 50 secondary teachers would get show-cause notices during the first phase.

Inayat Kumbhar, the district education officer, has called the absent teachers into his office and handed them notices.

Jameel Qureshi, the deputy director of education, arrived in Umerkot and handed out notifications to stop paying missing instructors.

618 elementary teachers from the Umerkot district, 399 from Thar, 82 from Mirpurkhas, 986 from Sanghar, 187 from Shaheed Benazirabad, and 79 from Naushero Feroze have been identified as missing from the Biometric Department's roster.

Similar absences have been reported by 94 Umerkot district teachers, 167 Thar teachers, and 55 Mirpurkhas teachers in the secondary department. The director of education, Mirpurkhas, and Benazirabad have received the lists of absent teachers from the chief monitoring officer.
