Saudi universities expand options with double majors, minors in new educational initiative.

In collaboration with the Council of Universities' Affairs, several universities in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia are launching and implementing Self-Designated Academic Degrees, one of the projects of the Human Capacity Development Program in several disciplines.
The initiative's goals, according to Council Secretary-General Dr. Basam Al-Bassam, are to guarantee that educational outcomes and labor market demands are in line with one another and to increase youths' preparedness for employment, which will increase the effectiveness of educational outputs.
According to him, the program enables students to tailor their study schedules and pursue multiple specializations in accordance with their interests and goals in school.
This aligns with the finest international educational practices by strengthening their knowledge, skills, and preparedness for the workforce.

A number of models, including double majors and minors, will be implemented in Saudi universities as part of this project. Additional models will be adopted in phases to assure quality control, review, evaluation, and alignment with labor market demands and developmental objectives.
King Abdulaziz University, King Faisal University, Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University, Al-Qassim University, and the Saudi Electronic University are among the universities that have begun putting the concept into practice in its initial phase.
