Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, the chairman of the Higher Education Commission (HEC), announced on Sunday that Pakistan has surpassed several other nations in higher education by achieving the largest female university enrolment since 2002.
He stated that in order to further close the gap in educational access, the government was dedicated to giving girls and students in rural areas greater chances and scholarships. According to Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, Chairman of HEC, women's higher education in Pakistan has advanced to unprecedented levels in an exclusive interview with PTV News. Women's enrolment has risen from 30% to 32% in 2002 to 48% to 58% today, a notable gain that reflects our efforts to advance women's education, he continued.
When compared to other nations, this rise is even more remarkable, and I'm happy to report that Pakistan is setting the standard in this area," he said.
He declared, "I am happy to announce that the Higher Education Commission (HEC) has made great progress in advancing women's education in Pakistan."
"We have given nearly half of our scholarships to female students as part of our efforts to empower women and close the gender gap in higher education," he said.
According to him, the goal of this program is to give women equal chances and motivate them to seek higher education, which would advance the socioeconomic growth of the nation.
Our scholarship schemes, including the Need-Based Scholarship Scheme, the Indigenous Scholarship Scheme, and the Overseas Scholarship Scheme, are designed to help talented and worthy female students from all over Pakistan, he said.
"The Higher Education Commission is working tirelessly with the government's support to create a more equitable and inclusive education system that gives students from all backgrounds the opportunity to pursue higher education," the Chairman continued.
In response to a question concerning scholarships for students from Balochistan and FATA, he said that these areas are receiving particular consideration from the Higher Education Commission.
He said, "I am sure that this support will help us achieve our goal of promoting education and research in Pakistan and will have a positive impact on the higher education sector."
