Punjabi & Seraiki In Schools

A bill to pass legislation mandating the teaching of local languages as part of the national curriculum has been introduced in the Punjab Assembly.

Amjad Ali Javed, a PML-N member of the Punjab Assembly, made the case for teaching Punjabi, Seraiki, and other regional languages in schools.

The mother tongue should be taught as a required subject in all public and private elementary schools, as well as in seminaries, he stated.

According to him, the government will design mother language textbooks for every district and provide them to kids at no cost once the legislation is passed. In addition to preventing language friction, the Act aims to connect the younger generation with their culture.

The bill has been forwarded to the Punjab Assembly's appropriate committee, which will report back to the Speaker of the Assembly in two months.
