In the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) committee room, Punjab Chief Secretary Zahid Akhtar Zaman presided over a crucial meeting to assess the state of affairs in districts impacted by flooding.
The potential lengthening of school summer vacations was one of the preventative steps that officials talked about.
Following the summer vacation, the province's educational institutions are expected to return on September 1. Nonetheless, given the current flood scenario and the fact that displaced families are using school facilities as shelters, the government is thinking of extending it by one week.
Schools in afflicted areas have opened to offer shelter and assistance to individuals affected by the floods, according to Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat. He went on to say that student safety is still the first concern.
After evaluating the situation in the flood-affected districts, officials said they would make a final decision on whether to prolong the vacations shortly.
Schools, Colleges in Sialkot Closed for 2 Days
Due to the heavy flooding in the area, the district administration has declared that all of Sialkot's educational institutions will be closed on August 29 and 30.
The district has seen extensive damage in a number of areas due to severe rainfall and increasing river levels, the Deputy Commissioner said in a notification.
As rescue and relief efforts continue, authorities said the action was decided to put instructors' and children' safety first.
All Sialkot tehsils are affected by the closure. Families affected by the floods are also using some schools as makeshift shelters and aid camps.
The Deputy Commissioner urged parents and school administrators to follow government directives and make sure kids remain in secure areas until things settle down.
