Final Plan to include Disaster Risk Reduction in Curriculum

Rana Hussain, the Minister for School Education, College Education, and Women Empowerment, announced on Tuesday her intention to incorporate a lesson on disaster risk reduction into the curriculum. This proposal was made by the Pakistan Disaster Management Authority (PDMA).

During a "Women Assembly" event held in collaboration with Oxfam in Pakistan, the speaker emphasized the progress made in policymaking in Sindh and highlighted the province's efforts in empowering women.

The assembly participants emphasized the humanitarian challenges encountered by the flood-stricken individuals affected by the 2022 flood. They stressed the necessity of implementing an early warning system and protecting vulnerable communities, particularly women, in times of catastrophe.

The minister emphasized the significance of providing opportunities for advancement, particularly for women who may not have had access to formal schooling. She promoted the greater utilization of technology and the integration of AI to enhance people's comprehension of pertinent matters.

During her statement, Senator Dr. Khalida Sikandar Mandhro emphasized the need to focus on the future and join together to provide assistance in times of tragedy. She advocated for cooperation between the government and civic society prior to disasters.

Nuzhat Sheerin, the Chairman of the Sindh Commission on the Status of Women, urged the PDMA to include women in the process of formulating policies and emphasized the significance of cooperation between civil society and government departments, specifically the PDMA.

Hussain Jarwar, the Chief Executive Officer of Indus Consortium, greeted the participants and presented a summary of the program's endeavors, which encompass the restoration of people's means of living and the organization of assemblies at the district level.
