On Sunday, Bangladesh's prime minister, Sheikh Hasina, announced that the government is implementing curriculum revisions in an effort to establish an international education system in her country.

"We want our nation to progress and stay up with the rest of the globe. This is the rationale for the curriculum modifications [of the educational establishments]," she stated, announcing the free textbook distribution to pupils up to the secondary level for the 2024–2025 academic year.

During a morning event at her office, she began the textbook distribution campaign by giving books to pre-primary, primary, and secondary pupils.

Sheikh Hasina sees education as an investment, not a cost, and pledges to pour resources into building a brighter tomorrow.

What curriculum and teaching methodology do the globally recognized universities employ? We wish to establish in Bangladesh an education system that meets international standards," she continued.

She emphasized the need for education focused on practical learning to generate job possibilities for the nation.

The prime minister stated that her government places a high value on technical education and vocational training because she wants to create a country where children are educated from an early age using current technology.

"We aim to create a country where education is based on knowledge and contemporary technologies. Everything has already been done for it," she continued.

In order to properly develop them, the prime minister urged the kids to pay close attention in class.

"We want to use versatile education to build the nation." Most importantly, we need a knowledgeable and skilled populace to create a smart Bangladesh," she stated.

She stated, emphasizing the need for education in eradicating poverty, "Our goal is to make Bangladesh a country free of poverty." A nation cannot be liberated from poverty except through education. For this reason, we have placed the utmost value on education."

On the eve of 2024, Sheikh Hasina wished everyone a happy new year.

The relevant ministries have taken the required actions to ensure that 3,81,28,324 pupils nationwide receive 30,70,83,517 copies of brand-new textbooks this year.

The nation's upazilas have already received the textbooks.

Since 2010, the government has given away more than 464,78,29,883 free textbooks to secondary school pupils nationwide.

Since 2017, the government has begun providing blind children with braille books in addition to materials in the languages of the small ethnic pupils—Chakma, Marma, Tripura, Garo, and Sadri—so they can study in their home tongues.

Dipu Moni, the education minister, presided over the event, which featured State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Jakir Hossain speaking after Deputy Minister for Education Mohibul Hassan gave the welcome speech.
