On Monday, the Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) announced that the intermediate exams that were scheduled for Wednesday had been rescheduled.

The BIEK stated that the proclamation of Youm-e-Takbeer as a public holiday on May 28 by the Sindh government has caused the exams to be postponed.

The affected Science Pre-Medical and Science General group papers will now take place on May 30 after BIEK Chairman Ghulam Hussain Soho gave the order.

According to the updated schedule, the Botany Paper I (for both new and existing courses, as well as failed students) will now take place on May 30 at the same time as the original May 28.

The examination centers would remain unchanged, the board clarified.

The Cabinet Division had already announced last year that May 28 is a gazetted holiday across the nation.

Pakistan became the first nation in the Islamic world and the seventh in the world to possess nuclear weapons on this day in 1998 after successfully completing nuclear tests.

Pakistan was forced to accelerate its nuclear development with increased dedication after India conducted its first "device" test in 1974.

On May 28, 1998, Pakistan conducted its first test at the Ras Koh hills in the Chaghai area of Balochistan, amid the chants of "Allah-o-Akbar."

Pakistan's determination to protect its independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity as well as its aim to maintain the strategic balance in South Asia were both made plain by the nuclear tests.
