In Pakistan, university enrollment has significantly decreased, according to the Economic Survey 2024-25, which was published shortly before the government budget.

According to the report, the overall number of students enrolled in postsecondary educational institutions decreased by 13% to 1.94 million in FY 2023. Even though there are 269 universities in the nation, this decline is still occurring.

This decline is attributed by the poll to a number of factors, such as changing demographics and economic difficulties. There is a little bright spot, though, as enrollment is expected to increase by 0.8 percent in FY 2024, reaching an estimated 1.95 million members.

The persistent difficulties in gaining entry to and staying in higher education are highlighted by the declining trend in university enrollment, which contrasts with slight growth at other educational levels.
