The academic council of Punjab University has approved the abolition of the session gap requirement for its LLB program, allowing those who choose to pursue a legal degree to apply for admission at any point in their lives.
After completing intermediate education, candidates were previously limited to a five-year session break. The idea is awaiting final approval from the university's syndicate after the board of studies suggested removing this prohibition.
Historically, students were eligible to apply for admission to Punjab University Law College as soon as they completed their intermediate schooling. However, many prospective students, particularly those who were returning to school later in life, were unable to enroll because of the session gap restriction.
The Board of Studies promoted eliminating the session gap to increase access to legal education, enabling a greater number of students to pursue an LLB regardless of when they finished their prior coursework.
Furthermore, the LLB Honours program's duration has been shortened from five to four years by the Higher Education Commission (HEC).
Many people who were previously denied access to legal education because of strict entrance requirements should find opportunities as a result of this policy change.
