The introduction of a new professional diploma program is a major step Punjab University has taken to improve its professional standards and administrative structure.
This program will be taught within the Department of Quality and Technology Management, with an emphasis on Management Systems and Standards. The objective is to give students the tools they need to create reliable systems for sustainability, safety, and quality.
According to the institution, participants will have flexibility, as the diploma courses will be offered both online and in traditional classroom settings.
Professionals, recent graduates, and enrolled students are all eligible for the program. While classes start on July 7, applications must be submitted by June 30.
Climate crisis affects Pakistan education
There are calls for a drastic overhaul of educational calendars because Pakistani students are losing weeks of study annually due to school disruptions brought on by extreme weather connected to climate change.
In order to protect children from the health hazards of learning in overcrowded classrooms without basic heating, cooling, or ventilation systems, schools have had to close due to extreme heat, toxic smog, and unexpected cold snaps.
Temperatures in Punjab reached 45 degrees Celsius (113 degrees Fahrenheit) during a nationwide heatwave in May, which caused some provinces to reduce school hours or begin summer vacations earlier than usual.
Extreme weather is making an already-existing education crisis, primarily due to poverty and access, worse in Pakistan, one of the nations most vulnerable to climate change with few resources for adaptation.
Government estimates show that approximately 26 million school-age children in Pakistan—roughly one-third of the country's total population—are not attending school, which is among the highest rates in the world.
Furthermore, by the age of ten, 65 percent of kids cannot read age-appropriate content.
Pakistan's most populous province, Punjab, which has the greatest rates of school attendance, is also not exempt from school closures.
