The 2025 rankings comprise more than 2,000 institutions from 115 countries and territories, with Oxford holding the top spot for the ninth consecutive year thanks to improvements in industry engagement and teaching.

MIT has also moved up to second place, overtaking Stanford, which has fallen to sixth.

Based on the most recent WUR 3.0 methodology, which employs 18 carefully calibrated indicators to evaluate institutions across five major areas—teaching, research environment, research quality, industry engagement, and international outlook—the 2025 rankings include 2,092 ranked universities, including 185 new entries from the previous year.

A total of 472,694 data points were gathered from 2,860 institutions that submitted data.
