The Ministry of Education in India has reiterated its dedication to developing AI and CT as crucial elements of education that is prepared for the future.

The Ministry of Education's Department of School Education & Literacy (DoSE&L) has reaffirmed its dedication to promoting AI and CT as crucial elements of education that prepare students for the future.

Through a consultative process, the Department is assisting organizations like CBSE, NCERT, KVS, and NVS, as well as states and union territories, in creating an inclusive and meaningful curriculum that falls within the broad parameters of the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCF SE) 2023.

Computational thinking and artificial intelligence (AI & CT) will strengthen the ideas of teaching, learning, and thinking while progressively moving toward the concept of "AI for Public Good." This effort, which will naturally integrate the technology from the foundational stage, starting in Grade 3, represents a small but important step towards the ethical application of AI to difficult problems.

On October 29, 2025, a stakeholder consultation was held, bringing together external experts and expert bodies such as CBSE, NCERT, KVS, and NVS. An expert group led by Prof. Karthik Raman of IIT Madras has been established by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to create the AI & CT curriculum.

DoSeL Secretary Sanjay Kumar emphasized during the consultation that AI education should be viewed as a fundamental, global ability connected to The World Around Us (TWAU). The curriculum needs to be inclusive, broad-based, and in line with NCF SE 2023, he said, adding that we prioritize each child's unique potential.

"As policymakers, it is our responsibility to establish the minimum threshold and reassess it in light of evolving needs," he continued.

He also emphasized that the foundation of curriculum implementation will be education materials and teacher training, such as NISHTHA's video-based learning resources and teacher training modules.

A Coordination Committee under NCF SE will facilitate cooperation between NCERT and CBSE to guarantee smooth integration, organization, and quality control.

While having an international perspective and cross-national and cross-international board analysis is beneficial, Kumar emphasized that it must be tailored to our needs.

Prachi Pandey, Joint Secretary (I&T), emphasized the significance of following the set schedules for curriculum creation and implementation in her closing remarks.

Key takeaways include the introduction of computational thinking and artificial intelligence from Grade 3 forward, beginning in the 2026–2027 academic year, in accordance with NEP 2020 and NCF SE 2023. Time management, resources, and curriculum integration for AI and CT under NCF SE. creation of manuals, digital resources, and resource materials by December 2025.

Training for teachers is provided by NISHTHA and other organizations, and it is intended to be time-bound and grade-specific.
