Saudi Arabia and China inks agreements on scholarships, curriculum development

The Saudi Ministry of Education and the Chinese Ministry of Education inked two agreements to promote educational ties between both the countries.
The initial agreement aimed to increase the number of Saudi students who may be accepted into specialized courses that are in high demand in the local labor market, secure seats for Saudi students at prestigious Chinese universities, and expand scholarship programs.
The Center for Languages and International Cooperation and the Chinese Ministry of Education inked a new agreement that requires Saudi and Chinese experts to develop Chinese language curricula and publish a comprehensive curriculum for teaching Chinese in public schools starting this school year.
Saudi Arabia and China have always had a close relationship. These collaborations have achieved great strides in every area, particularly in the business and economic spheres.
The two countries are part of a number of international financial blocs and organizations, including the G20 and the World Trade Organization.
China and Saudi Arabia developed the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), which aspires to encourage infrastructure connectivity and prosperity throughout Asia and beyond.
Saudi Arabia and China's educational collaboration is growing at a remarkable rate due to the eagerness of both countries' administrations to teach Arabic and Chinese and to build linguistic and intellectual contact channels.
The Ministry of Education in Saudi Arabia decided to permit the teaching of Chinese in certain intermediate schools in mid-August 2024.
Chinese was taught in eight Saudi secondary schools in 2020, and by December 2021, there were over 700 schools with Chinese as part of their curriculum.
