The Punjab administration has made the decision to improve the quality of higher education in the province by implementing an official university ranking system.

Over 60 Punjab universities will be assessed as part of the program, according to official sources, and the top 10 will be evaluated using performance metrics. This is the first implementation of a university rating system at the provincial level.

The PC-1 phase of the project, which is expected to cost Rs. 50 million, is already complete, and the first clearance process is in progress. As a permanent component of Punjab's higher education monitoring system, the rating will be revised once a year once it is introduced.

Officials stated that institutions' ranking success will be a determining factor in future financial allocations and important policy choices. Transparency, accountability, and ongoing enhancement of academic standards are the goals of the system.

The ranking system, according to sources, is intended to promote quality, institutional competitiveness, and the advancement of Punjab's higher education system to reach global standards.

The initiative is taken after the recently announced THE University Ranking list in which most of the Pakistani universities couldn't grab a better spot.

Most of the top institutions in the country remained in 300-400, and some of them below these numbers. The list ranked universities around the world by looking at different factors.

The initiative of the Punjab government is a wake-up call for other provinces to find out the factors of poor higher education and take effective measures to strengthen it.

Thus universities in the country will focus more on quality education and research, and healthy competition will ensure great results.
