Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced on Friday that the federal government would give free electric bikes to high-achieving pupils in Pakistan's educational boards, including the Federal Board.

The prime minister, who presided over a high-level meeting on EV promotion, stated that the program seeks to incentivize academic achievement while bolstering the government's larger drive for more economical, environmentally friendly transportation.

To assist in creating jobs and lessening reliance on fuel imports, the program will also give preference to those who are economically disadvantaged when it comes to the provision of electric rickshaws and loaders.

A thorough action plan is being prepared by the government to introduce electric automobiles at cheap rates through subsidized loans in order to ensure accessibility.

Officials indicated during the conference that 300,000 loaders and over 100,000 electric bikes will be supplied on easy terms.

With province distributions determined by population ratios, the prime minister ordered that women receive 25% of the overall quota under the EV plan. Additionally, he gave the order to raise Balochistan's portion to 10%.

The government is working to create a complete ecosystem for EV production and maintenance in addition to the student-focused program.

According to this plan, four new battery manufacturing companies will start operations in Pakistan, which should stimulate the local economy and generate new job possibilities.

PM Shehbaz mandated independent verification of the distribution and support systems to guarantee openness and responsibility.

Additionally, he advocated for a public awareness effort to educate the public about the program and promote participation.

The PM emphasized that all electric bikes, rickshaws, and loaders provided as part of the program must adhere to safety and quality criteria.

Senior officials from pertinent departments, Chief Coordinator Mosharraf Zaidi, Special Assistant Haroon Akhtar, and Federal Ministers Ahad Khan Cheema and Attaullah Tarar attended the meeting.

This step is one of the biggest reforms for women in Pakistan, who already face a lot of other difficulties like inequality and less education opportunities in Pakistan.
