The UK will back the international regulations on employing generative AI tools such as ChatGPT in schools, the Education Sec is expected to pronounce.

Bridget Phillipson plans to position Britain at the front of a "revolution" in educational technology during her speech to the Education World Forum in London on Monday.

She will also reveal £1.1 million in funding for a pilot study that will look at how technology can enhance staff workload, student outcomes, and inclusivity for kids with special education needs.

Additionally, the funds will support efforts to develop guidelines on the safe and effective use of AI in the classroom.

The most significant task facing global education in a generation, she will add, is putting AI on the correct path now.

"We must work together to develop a worldwide, collective consensus—a set of powerful instruments based on superior evidence."

The UK will also welcome and host a summit next year to promote the development of global procedures on using generative AI in education.

As long as schools adhere to their legal responsibilities, the current guidelines give them complete autonomy over the use of generative AI, like ChatGPT.

Additionally, when determining whether to utilize generative AI, the guidelines state that safety should be the "top priority" and that schools should not use student work to train AI models without consent.

To reduce the number of days that children miss school, the government is already employing AI to generate attendance reports. The government plans to implement technological advances in additional areas as well.

At the conference on Monday, Ms. Phillipson is anticipated to say, "We're deploying technology to free up teachers to devote more time to teaching."

For kids, that means better life changes, bigger expectations, and more attention.
