The School Education Department has announced promotions for math teachers with BS and MSc degrees in related subjects, which is a commendable step.
A Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics will now be accepted as a 16-year degree for promotion purposes, according to a notice released by the department's Equivalence Committee.
Teachers holding a two-year Master of Science degree in Computational Mathematics will also be able to advance. Applied or pure mathematics students with two-year master's degrees are subject to the same rules.
Math instructors were not previously on departmental promotion lists; thus, many of them had to wait almost ten years to advance in their careers.
While applauding the move, Kashif Shehzad, the provincial president of the Punjab Teachers Union (PTU), encouraged the government to ensure equitable treatment for all disciplines by granting the same recognition to those with bachelor's degrees in other topics.
45,000 Fake Enrollments Uncovered in Lahore Schools
After conducting a thorough audit, the District Education Authority (DEA) Lahore discovered and eliminated almost 45,000 phony student enrollments from schools throughout the city.
Official student enrollment figures had been inflated by the bogus submissions, revealing widespread enrollment statistics manipulation in the city's public education system.
There are now only 575,000 verified students enrolled in Lahore's public schools following the eradication of these fraudulent entries.
Concerns over the Education Authority's capacity to fulfill government-mandated enrollment goals have been raised by this notable shortfall, which has intensified scrutiny of the organization's operations.
The goal established by the DEA was to enroll 637,000 students by October 31, 2025. There is a significant void in the authority's capabilities following the discovery of extensive data manipulation.
The concerned schools have received notices warning of potential disciplinary action and requesting explanations for the disparities.
Despite the setback, the DEA states that valid enrollments have been steadily increasing; school administrators have worked to increase the verified number to 616,000. To reach the October 31 deadline, 21,000 more students must be enrolled.
Citing ongoing initiatives and heightened oversight, officials are still hopeful about reaching the goal.
