Participants at a consultation workshop on Monday stressed the importance of including environmental education and climate change into the curriculum to raise awareness of the issue among young people.

A Workshop on "Systems Thinking for Climate Change and Environmental Education" was held by Aga Khan University, Institute for Educational Development (AKU-IED), Karachi, hosted as part of its Climate Action Fellowship (CAF-2024) program.

Assistant professor Fozia Parveen of AKU-IED, who leads the CAF-2024 project, announced that AKU-IED has selected 50 exceptional KP educators to lead climate action projects in their schools and communities.

She stated that more than 500 applicants who had attended many capacity-building workshops in Peshawar and Chitral were selected as these fellows.

The best 20 ideas from these fellows were given incentives for growth by July 2024, and continuing support was given through webinars and online meetings, according to her.

According to Ms. Parveen, 25 companions were chosen from Upper and Lower Chitral, and the remaining 25 came from the remaining parts of KP. On this occasion, the fellows gave presentations of their ideas to a group of attendees that comprised academics, professionals, and representatives of the government.

In a roundtable conversation, the attendees underlined how important environmental education is for reducing climate change and preparing for it.
