Every year, 50,000 students will obtain internationally recognized certifications from City & Guilds London as part of a significant effort to give Pakistani youngsters technical skills that are recognized throughout the world.
A news release on Wednesday stated that these certifications will be granted in accordance with a contract between City & Guilds and GEMs UAE.
During a media briefing following the return of a Pakistani team from London, headed by Ms. Wajiha Qamar, Minister of State for Education, the news was made. Among the delegation were Mr. Amir Saadati, Executive Director of GEMS Middle East; Mr. Hussain Shaikh, Global Head of Strategy, GEMS Pakistan; Ms. Gulmina Bilal, Chairperson of the National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC); and Ghulam Ali Mallah, Executive Director of IBCC.
During the briefing, Minister Wajiha Qamar and Gulmina Bilal, the chairperson of the NAVTTC, announced the signing of a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to give Pakistani youth technical training that is on par with international standards. In addition to increasing Pakistani professionals' competitiveness in global labor markets, this program is anticipated to generate a large number of job possibilities overseas.
"Our objective is to equip Pakistani youth with skills that are up to par with international standards," Ms. Gulmina Bilal stated. Under this arrangement, City & Guilds will work with 50,000 students each year to provide them with training that will help them find good jobs in Europe, the Middle East, and other places.
The agreement was formally signed by the Pakistani delegation and City & Guilds CEO Ms. Kirstie Donnelly at the organization's London headquarters.
Ms. Bilal went on to say that this collaboration will transform Pakistan's vocational education system and bring its highly qualified workforce up to pace with global standards. "We don't want our young people to only have access to jobs in their community. This partnership would give Pakistani certificates international status, which is revolutionary," she said.
As stated in a news release, "This agreement represents a significant milestone in providing Pakistan's youth with international employment opportunities and promises to significantly contribute to the country's economic growth."
