Centuries ago, Pythagoras presented the famous theorem that, in a right-angled triangle, the square of the hypotenuse is equal to the sum of the squares of the two sides. Pythagoras, born on the Greek island of Samos in 570 BC, was a religious leader and mathematician. He was the son of a rich father, so he had plenty of wealth. A great deal of money was spent on the training of Pythagoras and the services of the best scholars in Greece were obtained for his education. Pythagoras was intelligent from childhood, so he took full advantage of the opportunity and, within a short time, surpassed his peers in mathematics and philosophy. Here, he benefited from the teachings of the Greek philosophers Thales and Anaximenes.

Pythagoras, who lived a carefree life due to the abundance of wealth, became interested in tourism at the age of 20, one of the aims of which was to gain knowledge. He traveled to Babylon, the famous city of the ancient world, which was the center of civilization. This city, rich in knowledge and arts, was settled on the banks of the Euphrates River, 60 miles from Baghdad in Iraq. Pythagoras was surprised to see the atmosphere of Babylon compared to the barbaric and ignorant environment of his country, Greece, and then he continued to learn as much as he could from the famous thinkers and intellectuals here. Here, Pythagoras gained knowledge but could not find the peace he was looking for. A few years later, he reached the city of Bihar in the subcontinent, where he met Gautama Buddha, the founder of Buddhism, whose mysticism spread far and wide. Gautama's beliefs had a significant influence on Pythagoras, who traveled to Greece to found a religious sect with many Buddhist principles and practices.

After acquiring knowledge on the subcontinent, Pythagoras reached Egypt, where thinkers and intellectuals were particularly skilled in the knowledge of geometry. He learned geometry from the Egyptian scholars and pondering over their knowledge, he discovered many problems, which we mentioned at the beginning of the article.

When Pythagoras, a young man who set out in pursuit of knowledge, returned to Greece, he was over 50 years old and instead of a playful and happy youth, he had turned into a quiet and serious thinker. In 530 BC, there were a large number of his believers and followers, but when an intellectual with his wisdom gives logical arguments and scatters the traditional and outdated laws and beliefs, he becomes a victim of the elders' rebuke. It was for this reason that Pythagoras had to leave Croton with his logical thoughts when he expressed his disgust with the despotism of Polycrates.

It is said about Pythagoras that he researched more deeply than any other human being. He had a wonderful personality and probably had some miraculous powers. Aristotle said that Pythagoras was the first person to discuss virtue and made the mistake of identifying its various forms with numbers. Another philosopher, Heraclitus, recognized that no one was equal to Pythagoras in scientific research. Pythagoras died in 495 B.C.
