Public relations means the contact of an organization with another organization or the public, for which there is a formal organization or a department in an organization. Today's PR involves planning, relationships, engaging people, keeping up with them, being with them through their ups and downs and improving the image. In  PR communicating effectively with people is an important part of it; it's a lifestyle, not a responsibility.

Job Description

The main job of people working in the field of public relations is communication. For this process of communication, the public relations worker adopts the same means that are used in other fields of communication; for example, to provide printed material, he can issue press releases embellished with pictures and information from his organization. Produces booklets, brochures, handbills, folders, catalogues, diaries, calendars and printed newsletters or organization magazines and journals, etc.

PR persons organize radio, TV programs, speeches, talks, meetings and debates as audio-visual content. In all the universities in Pakistan where there is a department of mass communication or journalism, professional education and training in public relations are organized as part of the mass communication curriculum. A degree in mass communication is now commonly seen in job advertisements for the appointment of public relations officers and workers in government departments. In private institutions and organizations, the appointment of experienced journalists is done preferentially for the posts of public relations officers.

Requirements

The individual characteristics that are required among those who enter this interesting field of action include a good personality, the ability to write and speak, a good, charming and interesting conversational ability, deep commitment to their institution or department and field, loyalty, and good manners. Awareness, responsibility, well-dressed and good-naturedness are the qualities that make you a favorite person not only in your organization but also in the public.

Job Roles

Large organizations have separate public relations departments and systems and employ a wide staff, some sitting in offices and some working in the field in newspaper offices and other public places. Those sitting in the office work on the preparation of printed, visual and audio materials. Prepare announcements, handbills, brochures, pamphlets, etc., or prepare newsletters and those who work in the field meet with public opinion spokesmen, key media persons, senior government and non-government officials and dignitaries. Apart from this, they organize speeches, debates, meetings, discussions, cultural events, demonstrations, exhibitions, etc. In small organizations where there is only one public relations officer, he has to work both inside and outside the office.

Job Opportunities

The students who want to pursue this field can get good jobs in Pakistan and abroad. The benefits and salaries offered to officers in large private institutions are so attractive that experienced and seasoned journalists leave their careers of years and embrace the profession of public relations. Information officers are appointed in the seventeenth grade from the information department of the provincial governments. Above the information officer are the assistant director, deputy director of public relations, and director general of public relations, respectively. Grades 19, 18 and 20 are reserved for these grades, respectively. In the Central Information Department, there are five grades: Information Officer, Assistant Director, Director, Director of Public Information and Principal Officer, which starts at 16 and ends at 20.
