Technology is fast trickling into every field, and agriculture doesn't seem left behind. For improving the yield of crops and minimizing crop losses in Pakistan through the adoption of technology, a conducive environment for collaboration among universities, the private sector, and international experts is required. Technology can make working in agriculture easier.

Importance of Youth in Agricultural Growth

Today young people must keep up with the world and ensure they have an eye on the basic sectors of their country, and that will help the country's economy grow very fast. If we make proper plans and use the right and timely management of human power, we certainly can take our country to newer, faster dimensions of economic and social development.

Policies to Empower Youth in Agriculture

Provincial and national policies need to be developed to assist the young people involved with agriculture. Students should have better access to education, including scholarships into different colleges in agriculture. Pakistani youth are now conscious and are prioritizing education in fields that can benefit the economy.

IT in Agriculture: A Growing Trend in Pakistan

The use of information technology in agriculture is increasing rapidly in Pakistan. A lot of work is being done internationally in this sector. Due to climate change, production patterns are also shifting. It is therefore important to unite related sectors to work collaboratively on agricultural development.

Modern Resources and Agricultural Training

There is a requirement to develop infrastructure for adopting the modern technologies based on the essential commodities, favorable climate, and agricultural resources. Education and training of the youth are important to empower them with contemporary skills. Graduates in agriculture who are seeking jobs should be included in the sector to introduce advanced practices and increase crop production.

Government-Sponsored Agri-Tech Training in China

Keeping this in mind, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced that Pakistani students will be sent to the Yangling Agricultural Demonstration Base in China for advanced training in the agricultural sector, with all expenses covered by the government.

  • March 2025: 300 students will be trained in irrigation, livestock disease diagnosis, genetic research, and modern seed production.

  • Mid-2025: 400 more students will receive training in modern machinery, rapid crop growth, and artificial intelligence.

Transparency and merit will guide the selection process. Out of 1,287 applications, 711 students have been selected, including candidates from Balochistan and Gilgit-Baltistan. This initiative aims to increase agricultural production and value addition in the country.

Pakistan-China Collaboration in Agricultural Education

The Prime Minister also invited the Northwest Agriculture and Forestry University to open a campus in Pakistan. China has been a longstanding friend, offering significant support for Pakistan’s development, especially in agriculture and education.

Future of Agri-Tech for Pakistani Youth

This is a great opportunity for youth to join Agri-Tech. By taking advantage of this, they can brighten not only their own future but also that of Pakistan's agriculture. Modern methods will boost production.

Encouraging youth involvement in agriculture is the need of the hour. By training them in modern sciences, information technology, and aligning education with market needs, the dream of rapid development and prosperity can be realized.

Chinese Model: A Blueprint for Agricultural Innovation

In China, youth with higher education, especially in agriculture, are turning to rural areas and developing agriculture using modern methods. The Chinese government strongly promotes the practical involvement of young people in rural development. These youth are contributing to education, agriculture, healthcare, and more. Millions have participated in rural activities, including poverty alleviation and sustainable agricultural development.

Pakistan must adopt a similar model for developing agriculture, industry, information technology, and other platforms.

Towards a Green Revolution in Pakistan

The key to a new Green Revolution lies in modernizing agricultural education and promoting sustainable development through advanced technology. Agricultural universities should lead the way in local technology adoption and benefit farmers, especially by involving youth in this transformation.

Agricultural Internships for Educated Youth

In Pakistan, efforts are being made to promote attractive career prospects and decent wages for the youth. Coordinated initiatives at national and global levels aim to spark a green agricultural revolution. The Punjab government has launched a unique internship program for agriculturally educated youth to help develop the sector on modern foundations and provide hands-on experience to graduates.

Youth: The Future of Agriculture in Pakistan

By developing the agricultural sector scientifically, we can achieve food self-sufficiency while offering promising careers and fair wages to the youth. Educated young individuals are now entering traditional sectors like agriculture, proving that the key to Pakistan’s economic growth lies with today's youth and future generations.
