Many parents complain that their children are becoming more and more aloof as they grow up. They are right, but the truth is that the seeds of this behavior are sown much earlier, in childhood.
The strength of a child's relationship with their parents during adolescence depends on how much time they spend with them during childhood. It is the parenting style that provides a solid or weak foundation for the relationship.
Communication Styles in Parenting
Some parents' style of communication is authoritarian, while some go even further and are stubborn and persuasive. Conversely, some parents are incredibly compassionate, while others appear to be utterly unconcerned about their children.
Not only the attachment of children to their parents, but also the warmth in their relationships with each other and other family members depends to a large extent on the parenting style.
The ideal parenting style is one in which parents listen to the child completely and then respond to them, and on the other hand, the child also expresses the same spirit and behavior. In this way, they teach the child to communicate and also to respect others in a better way.
Early Childhood and Foundation Building
One reason for the weak relationship between parents and children is that parents do not give time to their children at an early age. Children are generally sent to school at an age of less than three years.
This is why they do not develop an emotional attachment to their parents, nor are family, cultural, and religious values transmitted to them in the right way.
The child's education should start at least after the age of four or five so that they can spend maximum time with their parents. Children at this age pick things up quickly, so parents should provide them a solid mental foundation.
The first big mistake made by parents after the start of their children's education is to compare their children with other children. This practice, whether in school or outside, has a very bad effect on the development of children. Similarly, it is wrong for parents to give more importance to any one of their children.
Educational Choices and Career Guidance
In the field of education, the choice of a particular field for children is very important. When parents impose their will on them against the interests of their children, not only does rebellion arise in the minds of the children, but they also consider it a burden for themselves.
Due to lack of interest in this field, their desire to move forward disappears. Sometimes children fail in these subjects after three or four years and say goodbye to their studies.
On the other hand, it should not be the case that parents should accept their children's decisions blindly. Sometimes at this age, children are influenced by a particular field, but this does not mean that it is suitable for them. At this stage, children need the help of their parents.
The best strategy is to make children well aware of specific fields and then let them choose the field of their choice after completing their research. The way to do this is to write down the different fields of interest of the children in one place and also write down the nature of work and other possible results related to this field. Only after understanding this difference between liking and ability will children be able to make the right decision for themselves.
Building Self-Confidence
Self-confidence in the personality of children does not come suddenly. Parents have to try from childhood to make them confident. For this, they must be allowed to have safe adventures in a safe environment. The act of restricting everything affects their decision-making power as well as reduces their confidence.
In this regard, giving them opportunities to see the world outside the home is also very important. Allow your children to mingle with other family members and also give them the opportunity to join family celebrations. Their confidence must be built to such an extent that if they make a mistake, they can tell their parents.
By making a few changes in the parenting style and environment, you can provide your children with a good and strong foundation.
